Flat Out Rude…

To say the job market is different is a very mild way of saying that. Today, an applicant can apply to a job and have their pick of which job they want (depending on the industry). I can say from my experience that I am used to applying to a ton of jobs and getting minimal responses. Companies have gotten better with sending out a thank you for applying email and some will go as far as to send out a rejection letter too. There are still companies that provide zero acknowledgment of receiving your application and never offer applicants any updates on their applicant status.
